We are recruiting on behalf of our client for a proactive and creative part-time Communications Officer to join their Communications and Engagement team on a temporary basis for 4 months, based in Exeter. This is an excellent opportunity to support the delivery of high‑quality communications campaigns and day‑to‑day communications activity, including reactive and sensitive issues, within a fast‑paced public service environment. This position is part-time, working 22.2 hours per week between the hours of 9-5, Monday-Friday.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support the development and delivery of targeted communications campaigns to meet agreed objectives.
* Create engaging content across a range of channels for both internal and external audiences, using audience insight and best practice.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation to understand priorities, risks, and opportunities.
* Support leaders and stakeholders with communications advice, including on sensitive or complex matters.
* Assist with reactive communications, including support during crisis or emergency situations where required.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and external partners, including media contacts.
* Ensure all communications are delivered on brand, in plain English, and aligned with organisational values.
* Monitor and evaluate communications activity against KPIs and objectives, producing clear evaluation reports.
* Maintain accurate records, documentation, and content libraries.
* Support wider team activity to ensure communications are effectively coordinated and prioritised.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Proven experience working in a communications, marketing, or engagement role.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt messages for different audiences.
* Experience creating content across multiple channels, including digital and social media.
* Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
* Experience evaluating communications activity and presenting findings.
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently.
* High levels of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
* Understanding of public sector communications and governance (desirable).
* Drive to different locations.
