Feeling Stuck in Your Job Search? Honest Advice from a Huntress Consultant

We asked Hema Patel, one of our experienced consultants at Huntress, to share what she’s seeing in the market right now and what it means for candidates. If you’re feeling stuck, disheartened, or unsure of where to start, this is for you.

I speak with candidates daily who are facing similar challenges. The good news? There’s still demand, but it’s clear the market has changed, and so have employer expectations.
Here’s what I’m seeing right now:
The Market Is Active, But Competitive
Jobs are definitely out there, but there’s a lot of competition, especially for those dream roles that offer flexibility, progression, and a great company culture.
My advice:
- Tailor your CV to each role
- Be proactive in your search
- Think about what will help you stand out in a crowded market
Flexibility Is Still Important, But Not Always Guaranteed
Hybrid work is still top of mind for most candidates and I completely get it. But I am seeing more companies returning to the office full-time, or asking for more in-person time.
My advice:
- Be honest with yourself about your non-negotiables
- Stay open-minded, some onsite roles offer brilliant work/life balance in other ways
Entry-Level & Part-Time Roles Are Highly Competitive
If you’re just starting out or re-entering the workforce, you may be competing with hundreds of applicants and that can feel disheartening.
What helps:
- A clear, tailored CV
- Showing enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
- Considering temp or contract roles to get your foot in the door
The job market isn’t what it was, and I know how exhausting it can be. But there are roles out there for people who stay open-minded and keep going. If you’re feeling a bit lost or unsure what’s next, I just want to say: that’s okay. You’re not behind. You’re not the only one.
