5 Benefits of temping from a top Temp Specialist
Why consider temporary work?
Most of us are familiar with how to find a new permanent job, but there is an alternative. Temporary work is a period of short-term employment, convened through a recruitment agency, whereby you take on a project or assignment from one of the agency’s clients. You are not an employee of that company, but an Agency Worker, and when one temporary job finishes, you can easily move into another, often in a different company.
I have been working in temp recruitment for 10 years and during that time I have met so many people with such a wide range of backgrounds, personal situations, experience and skills – all of whom have their own reasons for taking on temporary roles. These include wanting to network with new people, gaining work experience, gaining new skills, filling a career break, or simply needing more flexibility than a standard contract would allow. There are numerous reasons why temp work could benefit you.
Here are some of the reasons you might like to consider temporary work:
1. Earn extra money
One of the benefits of temping is that it is an effective way to earn money, often faster than securing a permanent job. You get paid an hourly rate, normally paid weekly, and you also get holiday pay too!
If you are a student, temping is a great solution to earn money in your holidays. If you are in between jobs, it is the perfect way to continue to earn while you look for a permanent position – and it avoids any employment gaps on your CV.
2. Learn new skills
Temping provides you with opportunities to develop new skills and gain experience at different companies and within working environments. When you start a temporary assignment, you can put your existing skills to good use. Once you settle into a new company for a permanent position, those skills can be diversified across different systems. You can then share your experience and new skills on your CV or LinkedIn profile.
3. Flexibility around family/life commitments
A temporary position can provide you with work that fits around your weekly commitments. You might want to work certain times of the year (for example, school term time only), and temping can provide you with a lifestyle to suit.
4. Gain industry specific experience
You might be trying to break into a new industry or dreaming of working for a particular company but keep getting rejected because you do not have the relevant experience. Temporary work can give you a foot in the door so you can showcase your skills whilst gaining valuable industry experience. Who knows, you might get offered a permanent job!
5. Meet new people and build your working connections
Moved to a new area and unsure where to start to meet new people? Temping is a fantastic way to work in different companies and gain insight into the types of businesses in the area. You might make new contacts and friends as a result.
Whatever your reasons are for temping, there is usually a booking to suit your requirements. At Huntress, our temporary workforce comes with different backgrounds, experience and skill sets. We’ll match you with the booking to suit you.
