If you've ever thought about looking for a new career, December is the month! Skip the January rush and all the New Year's resolutions and jump ship now. Tempting as it may be to go into holiday mode early, stay focused and start the new year with bang (and a great new job).
If you're still not convinced, then these 5 reasons to job hunt in December will do it for you!
Statistically, less people apply for jobs in December which means that your CV will stand out more. A smaller candidate pool means less competition and you’re a lot more likely to be noticed by potential employers. December is the easiest month of the job market year, followed swiftly by January which is has the most competition.
Beat The Rush
January is one of the busiest times for hiring managers and there’s usually a lot of pressure on them to have people in place straight away. People getting hired in January are usually the ones who start their job hunt in December - get in there early and increase their chances of being top of the pile for interviews.
You Can Pick Up The Phone
Hiring managers and decision makers are usually easier to contact in December due to the high amount of holiday time taken by members of their team and a lesser work load in general. Take advantage of this and pick up the phone to speak to them directly. Even if they’re not actively hiring you’ll be at the front of their mind when positions become available in January.
It may not come as a surprise to hear that most people choose to quit their jobs or take new opportunities at the end of the year, this means that jobs that weren’t previously available are open at this time. Keep an eye out for last minute openings and take advantage of other people’s dash for the door.
