11 December 2018 · by Huntress Exeter Huntress is in the water!
More people have been into outer space than have rowed the Atlantic Ocean. So the Astro to Atlantic crew will be taking on one of the toughest challenges known to humankind when they embark on their 3000-mile trek across the Atlantic tomorrow!
Lou Read, Emily Read, Helen Symons and Chloe Harvey – teammates from Kingsbridge and Salcombe Hockey Club – will be taking on the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, which will see them row from San Sebastian in the Canary Islands to Nelson’s English Dockyard in Antigua.
Unaided through rough storms and treacherous seas, this inspirational quartet will endure 40ft waves, sleep deprivation, blisters, huge calorie deficits, hallucinations, and physical and mental exhaustion as they navigate the world’s toughest row. As well as pushing themselves to the limits of human endurance, the ladies will be raising vital funds for Devon Air Ambulance.
Declan Norris, Manager of our Exeter branch, recently met with the girls to pass on our best wishes – and Huntress is honoured to sponsor the team and have our name on their boat.
