Temporary Zone
What sort of person is best suited to being a permanent temp, i.e. someone who temps as his or her career?
If you have already gained some work experience, this will stand you in good stead. It is the ideal time to be temping as the job market is very buoyant right now. You will also benefit from holiday pay, sickness and maternity benefits. In addition, temping can help you decide how you want your career to progress, and can provide you with experience in a variety of industry sectors which will enable you to develop different skills. Many temps view themselves as ‘Executive Contract Workers’ and they can be as essential to the running of a company as permanent staff.
You should be flexible and prepared to work in a variety of companies. If you thrive on change, temping will suit you. Temping is a great way to develop your skills and build contacts. When you have completed a few bookings with good feedback, your Huntress consultant will know you are reliable and competent and will put you on their Executive Contract Worker list.
Permanent temps have work all year round and are re-booked by the same clients. If this is the career you choose, make sure you stipulate that you are prepared to work continuously and have no plans to look for permanent work.
Temping can also be a great way to meet new people, and achieve an interesting and evolving career.
